Sky Londergan '25: Student of the Week March 17, 2024

March 17, 2024
By Archbishop Carroll High School

Sky Londergan ‘25, Gonzaga House and St. Luke School alum, with Ms. Gretchen Obergefell ’19

Sky shows exemplary character both in the classroom and behind the stage. Sky gets right to work sweeping the bleachers, moving chairs, cleaning up trash, putting supplies away, and looks around and finds what needs to be completed and does it without having to ask an adult leader what needs to be done. Most people would note that all of this help is way above and beyond the job description of “stage manager,” extending responsibilities outside the stage itself by cleaning up the gym and cafeteria after performances.

What's your favorite part of being a student at Carroll?

My favorite part about being a student at Carroll are the after school opportunities, Drama Club, and the willingness of the teachers to share stories and life advice with students.

What Should school “do” for you?

School should teach students how to problem solve and create strong educational foundations that students can use to make intelligent choices in their day to day lives. Along with that, school should offer well-rounded opportunities that encourage students to do something that fits their needs and interests.

What’s a lesson you learned when you overcame a difficult obstacle?

A lesson I’ve learned after overcoming a difficult obstacle is that as long as you take away something and learn how you can improve it next time, every obstacle is a great opportunity. After every difficult obstacle, you have to go back and pick out something you can improve on, and then execute that into the next thing you do.

What’s your biggest dream in life?

My biggest dream in life is to be dedicated and enjoy what I pursue after high school.

How do you like spending your free time?

I like spending my free time at stage crew, hanging out with friends, and listening to music.

Five alumni return as teachers for 2023-24

August 21, 2023
By Archbishop Carroll High School

Archbishop Carroll High School is welcoming back five alumni as teachers for the 2023-24 academic year.

“We are delighted to welcome five highly-qualified, energetic, and faith-filled women to our faculty for the 2023-2024 school year,” Principal Matt Sableski '91 said.  “The fact that they are all graduates of Archbishop Carroll High School is certainly an added bonus.  To me, it is very telling that so many of our graduates who go into education have a desire to come back to their alma mater and contribute to our great community.”

Ms. Brooke Butler '17

Hometown: Dayton, Ohio

College:  The Ohio State University

Years working in education: Two

Classes I teach: Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Intro to Guitar, and Study Hall

What am I looking forward to this year?: I'm excited to help lead the band to achieve performance excellence throughout the marching, concert, and jazz seasons. I'm also ecstatic to support more students that I might not normally have a chance to connect with through the House System. Ultimately, I'm thrilled to pay it forward as a teacher -- Carroll provided so many opportunities to make fond memories and develop the character and academic confidence to be successful upon graduation. Our current students deserve that as well.

How do you enjoy spending your free time?: I enjoy hanging out with family and friends, nature walks, biking, arranging and composing music, reading/learning, and playing trumpet in a variety of Brass Bands and Wind Ensembles.

Share a Story: Ally Gozum '19 takes social media expertise from Ohio State to Hollywood

May 03, 2023
By Archbishop Carroll High School

Ally Gozum ‘19 has always dreamed of a career working in entertainment.  When she graduates from The Ohio State University on May 7, that dream will come true thanks to an educational experience that began her senior year at Archbishop Carroll High School and went viral during her senior year in Columbus.

Throughout her final year as a Buckeye, Gozum has interned for the university’s communications and public relations team.  Her biggest and most visible task has been imagining and producing original content for the university’s Instagram and TikTok profiles.  Each post starts as an idea in a brainstorming session with the four member team of full time university employees who manage the accounts.  Once the team approves an idea, Gozum creates the post without much further input.  Sharing campus life with more than 500,000 followers has been a rewarding and educational experience.

“It feels unreal,” Gozum said.  “It’s opened my eyes to the world of social media, and I’ve learned a lot about it.  I love going to Ohio State, so I love being part of this team and advocating for a school that I’m really passionate about.”

Her experience running a social media account started with a much smaller audience in the fall of 2018.  As the Communications Captain for Mercy House, Gozum first learned how to create and schedule content for social media.  The skills she learned at Carroll enabled her to grow at Ohio State.

Carroll helped me so much as being a great foundation for all of my college classes.  I had to take Spanish here for a few credits, and those classes at Carroll really prepared me.

“We talk about our content strategies and planning, so it’s really cool being able to apply the knowledge I learned at Carroll into this job.”

Gozum also spent the summer before her senior year at Ohio State interning for a global public relations firm in her hometown of Chicago.  Working with influencers to promote consumer good brands like Ninja, Shark, and Whirlpool all while networking created a portfolio of demonstrated skills to strengthen her resumé for her job search.

Although she is preparing to sign out of the Ohio State account one last time, Gozum has already accepted a spot in NBC Universal’s west coast Page program after rounds of interviews and collaborating with other job candidates to design a marketing campaign.  She will rotate through programs in public relations, marketing, and communications to help promote NBC Universal’s scripted television shows and feature films.  As she moves west to begin her career, Gozum credits Carroll with laying a foundation for her success.

“Carroll helped me so much as being a great foundation for all of my college classes.  I had to take Spanish here for a few credits, and those classes at Carroll really prepared me.”
