The College Board is honoring five members of the Archbishop Carroll High School Class of 2024 for their performance on the PSAT during their junior year of high school.

Kyle Heilmann and David McLoughlin are two of approximately 16,000 students in America that have qualified as National Merit Scholar® Semifinalists for their performances on the 2023 NMSQT/PSAT.   These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,140 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.

Neil Tivakaran and Sydney Ramsey earned Commended Scholar status, and Alyssa Applin was chosen by the College Board for the National African American Recognition Award.  This Recognition Award program grants underrepresented students with academic honors that can be included on college and scholarship applications and connects students with universities across the country, helping them meaningfully connect to colleges and stand out during the admissions process. Colleges and scholarship programs identify students awarded National African American, Hispanic, Indigenous and/or Rural/Small Town Recognition through College Board’s Student Search Service.

Since 2008, Archbishop Carroll High School has helped 110 students earn the distinction of Commended Scholar, Semifinalist, or Merit Scholar through the NMS program.
