Two groups of Archbishop Carroll High School students finished in the top two places at statewide competition that tests students’ aptitude in STEM Education topics and are eligible to compete in the national level of competition this summer.

The students participated in the TEAMS (Tests of Engineering Aptitude Mathematics, and Science) state level competition.  The 2023 competition focused on the theme of “Engineering & Everyday Devices”, and the assessment consisted of a Multiple Choice test, Design/Build assignment, and written Essay.  The TEAMS competition is recognized by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, designating the contest as one of the premier STEM competitions for secondary and high schools throughout the country.

“To have one group of students finish in first place in this competition is a tremendous accomplishment, but to have four groups of students achieve such high scores is truly remarkable," Archbishop Carroll High School Principal Matt Sableski '91 said.  "We are proud of these students and their educators for carrying on Carroll’s outstanding legacy of outstanding STEM Education by showcasing their knowledge and dedication to learning and teaching.”

A third group of Carroll students finished in seventh place, and another group finished among the top 20 of 60 total statewide competitors.  The top three Carroll groups have all qualified for the national level of competition scheduled for June 28 - July 2 at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville.  Carroll is the only Dayton area school with a group to finish in the top 20 of the rankings.

This is the fourth time Carroll students have finished best in Ohio and qualified for the national level competition (2013, 2016, 2022).
