The High School Placement Test (HSPT) is required for all eighth-graders seeking admissions to any high school in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati (A of C).  Carroll High School uses the test results in the following ways:

  • To assist our guidance counselors to ensure that each student is placed in the most appropriate courses for his/her academic skill level
  • To help determine acceptance eligibility

The HSPT is always administered on the Saturday prior to the Thanksgiving holiday at all participating high schools in the A of C.  The HSPT can be taken at any site where the student could possibly enroll.  All participating high schools will accept the results of the HSPT taken at any high school.  The fee for the HSPT established by the A of C is $30.00 and will be assessed to all students taking the test regardless of location.  Selection of a student’s testing site is not a condition of acceptance.  Students may have their test scores sent up to three high schools.  Parents desiring that a fourth school receive test scores may make arrangements through the Catholic Schools Office.

HSPT Format:

  • Introduction and Instructions – 10 minutes
  • Verbal Skills  –  18 minutes
  • Quantitative Skills – 30 minutes

No, calculators are not permitted for any portion of the test.  Please do not bring calculators.  Likewise, cell phones and smartwatches will not be allowed to be used during testing.

2. What should my child bring on testing day?

Your child should bring two #2 sharpened pencils.  They may bring their cell phone for contact purposes, but they (along with smartwatches) are not allowed during testing.  If your child forgets pencils, we can certainly provide them.

3. When do we receive results from the test?

HSPT results will be mailed to your home address as completed on the students form the day of testing.   Receiving results does not guarantee acceptance.
